As an observer you have the ability to track your student's grades and submissions in each of their courses. Viewing grades, especially with multiple students, can be a bit tricky. This guide will walk you through how to view student grades as an observer.

Getting to the grades
Grades are broken down by course and student, but there are two ways you can choose to get there:
Access Grades inside the course
If you are looking to quickly access one student's grades in a certain course you can go straight to that course's gradebook. To do so, in your observer account dashboard simply click on the Course card for the course you are looking to view grades in, then Click on Grades in the side navigation bar in that course!
Access Grades from Observer Dashboard
The quick way to access the gradebook for an observed student is to go to your observer dashboard and select on the right-hand side of the page. This brings you to a list where you can select the student and course you wish to view grades for.
This is the same gradebook page from the previous instructions, but this can be faster way to access the specific student and course you wish to view.
You can also view a list of all courses sorted by student by clicking "Courses" > "All Courses" on the left from anywhere in Canvas.
Switching courses
Once you are in the observer gradebook through the steps above, you can easily switch between multiple courses! To do so, click the "Course" box at the top of the page, select the course you wish to view grades for, then click Apply.
Switching between students in the same course
If you are observing multiples students in the same course, you can switch between them easily! To switch between students, click the "Student" box near the top of the page, select the student who's grades you wish to view, and then click Apply.
Note: This drop down only appears if you have multiple students in the currently viewed course.
What can I see in the gradebook?
Within the gradebook you can see a list of all the assignments that are currently published for this course. To the right of the assignment titles you see columns that breakdown the Due date, status of student submission, student score on assignment and total score possible for assignment.
At the bottom there is the total score for your observed student in this course currently, as well as Awarded points out of total class points available.
If you'd like to leave a comment on the Graded assignment and provide interactive feedback with your teacher, Canvas allows you the ability to do so.
First, while in the Grades tab, you can review the feedback your teacher left you in the comment icon to the right of the screen.
If *you* would like to leave feedback for your teacher, you can click into the assignment:
Once in the assignment, you can leave a comment in the interactive field to the right and click "save". Your teacher will be notified of the comment and will follow up as needed. This is a helpful way to communicate any updates or questions around assignments and quizzes through the Grades tab.
