All ORCA staff should enable 2-Step Authentication by September 30. Enabling 2-Step Authentication is an important step towards keeping your Google account protected.
To get started, go to accounts.google.com and log in to your ORCA Google account. You will see the screen below. Click on Security on the menu on the left.
This is the Security screen. Under Signing into Google, click on 2-Step Verification.
On the next screen, click Get Started.
Google will have you put in your ORCA password again, to verify that it is you making changes to your account. Enter your password, and click Next.
Now you will set up your 2-Step Authentication. On this screen, enter a phone number that is not your Google Voice number (a cell phone is usually the most convenient). Google will not contact you at this number unless you are logging in to a new device and request a code. You can use the switches to choose if you'd rather receive a text message or a phone call when you request a code.
If you do not want to use a phone number to verify your account, you can click Show more options. You can either use a security key, which is a small physical device that you use to log in, or a Google Prompt, which will send a notification to your phone for you to accept when you need 2-Step Authentication (you need to be logged in to the Google App if you are using this method and have an iPhone). Make your selection, and then click Next.
Google will use whatever method of verification you've selected to send you a confirmation code. Enter the code or follow the prompts to confirm 2-step verification. When you're done, click Next.
If verification was successful, you will see the screen below. Click Turn on.
You're done! If you ever need to change or edit your method of verification, you can repeat the steps above to do so. You will not be able to turn off 2-step authentication after September 30.
If you're having issues with 2-step authentication, or need additional support, feel free to reach out to the tech team.
