Trying to access what you need as a student in ORCA, but do not have your supplied Chromebook? Here is a quick breakdown on how to access the few places you will need to be successful if you are on a Mac device! (Macbook, iMac etc.)
Login to ORCA Chrome Account and Sync
Download & install Chrome
ORCA supports one browser across all devices which is Google Chrome. Let's get this installed so that we can get everything set up! Go to the google download page by clicking here. On this new page click on Download Chrome.
The next screen covers Google Chrome's terms of service. Go ahead and click on Accept and Install. (this page may or may not appear depending on the version being downloaded)
You now have a new file in your Downloads folder called . Click on this to open the application installation window. You will have to click+hold and drag the Chrome Icon into the folder to finish installing Chrome.
You now have Chrome! Let's use the "Spotlight" search at the top-right of your desktop to find and open Chrome. Click on the magnifying glass and Type in "Chrome" in the search bar. Now click on Google Chrome.
Now you have Google Chrome up and running! To make life easier lets make sure Chrome is always found in your "Dock" at the bottom of the screen. This way we never have to search for it again. Hover over the Icon for Chrome in your Dock and Control+Click to open its menu. Now hover over "options" and click on "Keep in Dock".
Login to ORCA Chrome Account and Sync
Now that we have Chrome running, lets create a new profile for school! With your new Google Chrome browser open click on the profile picture at the top right, then click "Add Chrome Profile".
Now you can pick the name you would like for your Chrome profile, as well as a picture so you can always tell who you are when you are logged in! After your choices are made Click "Add" at the bottom right. Welcome to your new profile!
Now we need to log in to the Google account that ORCA has created for you! After creating your profile you should see a screen that says "Make Chrome Your Own." Let's click on Already a Chrome user? Sign in. (depending on the version of Chrome, you might see this notice displayed slightly differently or not at all)
Now you should be at a sign-in page. Here you will enter the email and password that ORCA supplied you as a new student in the ORCA welcome email. Go ahead and enter those and click next.
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART:
Make sure after signing in that you click on Yes, I'm in in the pop-up on the next screen. This will connect your ORCA account to this new profile you created. Now you should have a much easier time signing into different ORCA sites, and automatically have the ORCA bookmarks at the top of your Chrome window. (this page will look similar or slightly different depending on the version of Google Chrome being set up.)
Another way to check and confirm that you are synced on a Mac OS device to by clicking on your profile pic in the upper right corner of the screen and confirming that Sync is set to "on":
Want to check out your emails, or any other Google apps? As long as you are signed into your new profile you created you can click on Apps at the top right of your chrome browser next to ORCA Bookmarks whenever you want! Here you can open any of your Google apps, including Gmail to check your emails.
Canvas
Now lets introduce you to Canvas. If you have made it this far, you definitely already have a Canvas account that has been created for you! Go ahead and click on ORCA Bookmarks, then ORCA Canvas to take you to your Canvas Dashboard! You should be automatically logged in. Here you can see all of the courses you are currently enrolled in. The first course for everyone to tackle as soon as possible is the ORCA Family Orientation course!
