Trying to access what you need as a student in ORCA, but do not have your supplied Chromebook? Here is a quick breakdown on how to access the few places you will need to be successful if you are on a Windows device!
Download & install Chrome
ORCA supports one browser across all devices which is Google Chrome. Lets get this installed so that we can get everything set up! Go to the google download page by clicking here. On this new page click on the blue Download Chrome.
A pop-up will come up and ask if you would like to save this file. This file is the Chrome installer. Go ahead and click on Save File.
You now have a new file in your Downloads folder called ChromeSetup.exe. Navigate to your Downloads folder, and click on ChromeSetup.exe to open the application installation window.
A window will popup asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes onto your device?"
Click Yes.
After clicking Yes, Google Chrome will download and and install!
Now you have Google Chrome up and running! To make life easier let's make sure Chrome is always found in your "Taskbar" at the bottom of the screen. This way, we never have to search for it again. Hover over the Icon for Chrome in your Taskbar and Right+Click to open its menu. Then, click on Pin to taskbar.
Login to ORCA Chrome Account and Sync
With Chrome running, let's create a new profile for school!
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, select Profile
Add new profile.
Now, we need to log in to the Google account that ORCA has created for you! Click on "Sign in".
From here, you should be at a sign-in page. Enter the email and password that ORCA supplied to you as a new student in the ORCA welcome email. Once you've entered those, click next.
The following steps might appear after you sign in.
Make sure after signing in that you click on Link Data.
Then, click on Yes, I'm in in the pop-up on the next screen.
This will connect your ORCA account to this new profile you created. Now you should have a much easier time signing into different ORCA sites, and automatically have the ORCA bookmarks at the top of your Chrome window.
Want to check out your emails, or any other Google apps? As long as you are signed into your new profile you created you can click on Apps at the top left of your Chrome browser next to ORCA Bookmarks whenever you want! Here, you can open any of your Google apps, including Gmail to check your emails.
Canvas
Let's introduce you to Canvas. If you have made it this far, you definitely already have a Canvas account that has been created for you! Go ahead and click on ORCA Bookmarks, then ORCA Canvas to take you to your Canvas Dashboard! You should be automatically logged in. Here, you can see all of the courses you are currently enrolled in. The first course for everyone to tackle as soon as possible is the ORCA Family Orientation course!
Zoom
Zoom will be a crucial part of the orientation process, and you will be able to sign in and begin using Zoom in all of your classes after finishing your Canvas ORCA Family Orientation course!
