Follow along below for a step-by-step guide to submit your Google Doc, Slides, or Sheet in Canvas. There are two options for how to do this, either by using the Google Drive LTI tool, or by downloading and uploading the file.
Download and upload the Google file
Use the Google Drive LTI tool
- Navigate to your assignment to submit it, click on the "More" icon and select the "Google Assignments (LTI 1.3)" option in the submission type options.
- Click "Select file."
- Find your file in the Google Drive window that opens and select "Add."
- In the prompt that opens, select "Attach."
- Back in Canvas, select "Submit Assignment."
Download and upload the Google file
Find your assignment in the Home Page, Modules or Assignments section of your course and click on its title to go to the assignment's page.
- Click "Start Assignment" to open the submission menu.
- Next, go to Google Drive in a new tab and open the document you wish to submit.
- Click "File" at the top of the page, and select "Download."
- From the pop-out menu, select the type of file to download as. For Google Docs, select "Microsoft Word (.docx)." For Google Slides, select "Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)." For Google Slides, select "Microsoft Excel (.xslx)."
- Now go back to your Canvas assignment, click the rocket ship icon to select the Google file.
- Locate the file you wish to upload in the "Downloads" or "Recent" section of your Chromebook's files, and double-click it to upload it.
Note: Do not look under the "Google Drive" folder, as documents there are not able to be directly uploaded. - Once your file is uploaded, click "Submit Assignment".
- Once submitted, the assignment page will show "Submitted!" in the top-center of your assignment review page.
You can scroll down the page to view your submission. You can also view your submission by visiting 'Grades' in the course menu and selecting the assignment title.
